i really like the name but my family says it sounds to much like the opposite sex then to the sex i want to name it. do you think its a boys or girls name?
Do you think Hayden is a girls or a boys name?
I think it's a great name for either one...and i love the name Hayden for a girl.
Reply:I think it's a boy's name but I can think it works on both.
Reply:bothreally and cute
Reply:It can be both and I've seen them both for a girl and a boy!
Reply:It is for both, but I personally know two boys named Hayden and no girls.
Reply:It seems to me Hayden could be both, but my friends recently named their baby boy Hayden. I love the name!
Reply:Boy's Name
Reply:Hayden is a beautiful name for a girl, though some still consider the name to be a boys. Honey, this is not your
family's decision, you do what makes you happy. Maybe
try looking up different spellings for Hayden, one might interest you that spelled different and looks like a girls name.
Reply:Technically, it's a classically unisex surname with a fairly ambiguous meaning ("hay valley").
Traditionally, however, the name itself has been far more commonly used as a masculine choice, appearing on the male side alone nearly every year from 1880 to 1947, then dropping out of common usage and reappearing in the mid-80s (quickly shooting up the charts and remaining in the top 75 - 300 range for over 15 years now).
Conversely, Hayden only first appeared on the feminine side as recently as 1998, and has never been higher than its current position at 416 (for two years running).
So while the name CAN be used for both genders, it definitely has a traditionally masculine feel, given its long history of familiar male usage. If that's what you want, and you think you'd be comfortable with it, a perfectly fine choice. But I wouldn't kid myself into thinking it a "pretty, feminine" option or anything along those lines. Far more appealing to parents who WANT an non-gender-specific, not at all feminine name for their daughters, if you know what I mean. So really, it depends on what you're going for.
Especially given the current trend toward any name that rhymes with Aidan -- Braden, Caden, Hayden, Jadon, Raiden, etc. -- all of which are also traditionally masculine but prone to current crossover usage. Meaning most won't delve any deeper into Hayden's surname roots and will simply think it "just another trendy boy name on a girl," if you follow.
Just some things to consider. Hope it helps! ;)
Reply:Im gonna say for both because I liked that name to and I named my daughter that. LOL I spelled it Haydan for a girl..
Reply:it sounds like a boy to me, but lots of people say it's a unisex name.
Reply:Its a unisex name but I like it more for a girl!!
Reply:It's a name that's become unisex. I prefer it as a boy name.
Reply:boys name. because of the den part of it.
Reply:don't give your child an ambiguous name like Hayden. think of all the times in their life when someone reads their name and doesn't know if they should address them as a Mr. or Mrs., sir or ma'am, he or she. it's like that character Pat from saturday night live
Reply:Hayden is both a girl's and a boy's name. It can be used for either. Don't go by your family's opinion. You name your baby whatever you want to name it. I personally hate that name though. It is too trendy, like all the other -ayden/aiden names.
Reply:I like Hayden for a girl but Aiden for a boy.
Hayden DOES sound like a boy or girls name, it just depends on people's opinions.
Reply:Sounds like a girls name to me.
Reply:it's for both!

More so today, since Hero's came out, the cheerleader real name is Hayden, she is differently a girl
Reply:I think of it more of it more as a boy's name.
Reply:Definitely a boy. There is nothing feminine or pretty about it.
Reply:It can be used for both, and most likely, if you have a girl and name her Hayden, she will have other female Hayden's in her class.
It's getting to be a popular name.
Reply:Well I love the name Hayden! Yeah there is a girl actress named that..but there is also Hayden Christiansen..a boy!

Reply:It's a BOYS name.
Also The Hayden Planetarium in N.Y.C.
Reply:boy's name
I don't care for it because of its overuse. I worked in a daycare room for 2 year olds a few years back. Out of a class of 22, there were 6 kids that had some variation of Aiden/Hayden/Jayden. It was very confusing and made those kids stand out less as they didn't seem to have a single identity.
Reply:I believe it is for a male
