Is the name Ari (are-ee) a boys name? I've been getting mixed reactions on it. Maybe this open question will help.
Is the name Ari a boys name?
It might be in a non American country. But if you're in America I wouldn't use it for a boy, it sounds too feminine.
Reply:Traditionally, and in most of the cultures in which it's an accepted name, it's a boy's name. In the US, it's largely a Jewish name. I think it's very distinctive for a boy. I like it a lot.
However, it's also commonly used as a nickname in the US for a lot of girl's names - Arianne, Ariadne, Arielle, which is why many people think of it as feminine.

The only problem is that I named my cat Ari! It means lion - I'm pretty sure it's a hebrew name. And yep, it's a boy's name.
I got it from Entourage - Vince's manager Ari Gold.
Reply:For the most part yes, it's short for Aristole and is also an ancient Scandinavian that means "Eagle". It has however become somewhat of a nn for girls with formal names like Arianna, Ariel. Like Jo for JoAnne.
Reply:Its considered a Unisex name.
