Why do people think Hunter can only be a boys name?

Is it because most men are hunters so it is like a gender rule of thumb? There are women who like to hunt as well and what if a man names his daughter Hunter because he enjoys the sport so much? Does that make her prone to name calling and teasing?

Why do people think Hunter can only be a boys name?
No, Hunter is cute for a girl, so is Kody, Karson, Toni, Robbie, Ashley, they are all considered boys name, who cares, if you like it use it.
Reply:There's Holly Hunter.
Reply:Well I guess you can call a girl that but although it sounds very odd you could call a girl Huntress.
Reply:I know a female named Hunter.
Reply:probably because it's a boys name. Some names are unisex but people are trying to make ALL names unisex. It doesnt work that way. Sure you could name a girl hunter. You could also name a girl Tom, John, Harry, etc etc etc. Just because you do it, doesnt make it a girls name. People wont start viewing a male name as 'unisex' just because they've met a female with a male name. They'll just view that female, as a female with a guys name. Trust me, its no fun for the kid. My middle name is Jo. Jo IS a unisex name, but when people hear it , they automatically think "Joe", which is the male spelling for that name. I got made fun of constantly growing up when people found out what my middle name was.
Reply:why are girls named Bobbie, Michael, Charlie, etc. You should name a child what you like but just remember people just like to make fun of other's name's.
Reply:There is the actress Hunter Tylo. It isn't necessarily a boy's name.
