Why is the name ANDREA is named to boys in Italy and not to girls.?

Italy don't use it for girls.

Why is the name ANDREA is named to boys in Italy and not to girls.?
I'm italian and it's true andrea is a very common name for men.

also if you want to use it for a girl they wont let you register it

which is funny. Also it's not pronounced andraya. just andrea. Nicola is a male name too, but with an accent on the O

like

Nic貌la instead of n矛cola.
Reply:it isn't pronounced like it is in english..it's pronounced andraya

it's the equivalent to the english andrew

another one i find odd is nicola, another boys name again pronounced different and it's english equivalent would be Nickolas
Reply:It's always been this way; and actually Italy kept the name as for its meaning: Andrea means "manly", so perhaps you should wonder why a lot of other Countries turned one of the most virile name into a feminine one :-)
Reply:It was originally a boys name in Italy that was then brought over to Britain and America and used as a girls name.

Plus is was pronounced 'On-dray'.
Reply:Same reason Karol/Karel is used for men in Czech Republic.

It is called cultural difference.
Reply:It was a boys name before it was used for a girl. It means Manly.
