Is the name Penny a girls name or a boys name?

I watch a lot of old western movies, and the name Penny is always the name of a male character

Is the name Penny a girls name or a boys name?
I don't like it for either, its really kinda blah
Reply:I've never encountered Penny as a male name, either in a movie or in real life. It's a common nickname for the girl's name Penelope rather than a name in its own right.
Reply:I've never met a male Penny so I always associate that name with a female. It doesn't sound very masculine to me and it would be awful to be a boy with that name...talk about a name that would invite teasing!!

Reply:come on nah... Westerns aren't really the best source of info these days. what would i sound like calling my son Penny. "Penny, take out the trash.." WTF?! And even if u heard it in movies... their usually just nick names for mocho guys like Sunny short for Shawn
